
Biosafety and Biocontainment Training for BSL-3 Laboratory Workers

The National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program and Kent State University are offering a five day series of courses in Biosafety and Biocontainment for BSL-3 Laboratory Workers. These courses are designed for biosafety professionals, researchers and laboratorians to enhance individual knowledge and meet the scientific, regulatory, biocontainment, biosafety, and engineering challenges associated with the working in a biocontainment facility. Daily topics will include:
- Introduction to microbiology and biosafety
- Principles of biosafety and biocontainment
- The biological risk assessment process
- Laboratory sterilization and disinfection
- Emergency planning and response
- Laboratory regulations, standards and guidelines
- Biocontainment laboratory security
- Hands on sessions using laboratory equipment
Successful completion of the courses is a prerequisite for completion of a Basic Level Certificate in Biosafety and Biocontainment, and for participation in Advanced and Comprehensive Level certificate programs.
NBBTP is authorized by IACET to offer 4.0 Continuing Education Units. To receive CEUS, participants are required to score a minimum of 70% on each post-course knowledge assessment. The courses have also been awarded 6.68 ABIH Certification Points under approval number 11-632.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
We request registration by January 31, 2011, after which participants will be admitted if space is available. Course requires a minimum of 10 participants.
- Course Tuition: Tuition is $2300.00 for the five day course. Discounts are available for multiple registrations. Contact info@frontlinefoundation.org for more information. Course may be rescheduled if minimum number of registrations is not received by February 14. Registrants will be notified on February 18 should this be the case.
- Course Schedule: Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Lodging is available at Kent State discounted rates at the Holiday Inn Express Inn & Suites - Cleveland – Streetsboro Cleveland (6miles away but near restaurants) http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hotel/sbooh?stopredirect=true
- A shuttle between the campus and the hotel will be available for a nominal fee
- Lunch as well as morning and afternoon coffee breaks are provided on-site.
- Transportation, lodging, other meals and incidental expenses are the responsibility of individual participants. Registrants will receive a confirmation including directions and information on transportation.
Frontline Healthcare Worker's Safety Foundation Ltd. (Frontline Foundation) serves the high containment research field as the contract manager for the National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program (NBBTP).
